May 14, 2021 - Membership Update

Our local bargaining committee this week continued its work on effects bargaining. We received the company’s response to our opening proposal on April 22, and this week, after much careful, deliberation, we submitted our counterproposal.

Please plan to attend the monthly membership meeting on Tuesday, May 25, to hear more about the effects bargaining process. International Vice President Fred Redmond and other representatives from the bargaining committee will be there to update you on everything that has happened so far, answer your questions and discuss the latest proposal.

The meetings will be held at the Morgantown Marriott at Waterfront Place at 7:45 AM, 12:30 PM, and 3:45 PM in the hotel ballroom, with enough space for social distancing. We hope to see you there.

Learn about TAA

We also want to make sure you are aware of Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA), a program that is available for workers displaced as a result of increased imports. Please watch this video in which USW Legislative Director Roy Houseman discusses the program and how to access its benefits. In addition to helping countless USW members access training through TAA, Roy himself used TAA benefits when his USW-represented paper mill in Montana shut down.

Again, you can watch the video here.

We also recently uploaded information onto our website about a job fair being conducted by the Region VI Work Force Development Board next Thursday, May 20, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Fairmont, W.Va. Click here to learn more.
